Joseph Hamburger Bar – Restaurant Design in Jerusalem

Joseph Hamburger Bar was designed on Agripas Street in Jerusalem, at the heart of one of the city's most iconic culinary destinations. The project was initiated by the owners of Hatzot, one of Jerusalem's most well-known and beloved restaurants, who expanded their operations and relocated to a neighboring building. The original location, which had been home to Hatzot for decades, was transformed into Joseph – a premium hamburger restaurant specializing in freshly ground, high-quality beef prepared on-site.

The main challenge of the project was creating an entirely new dining concept while preserving the sense of history and authenticity associated with the location. For more than forty years, the site was identified with one of Jerusalem's most famous eateries, making it important for the new restaurant to feel as though it had always been part of the neighborhood.

The design language combines industrial-inspired elements with authentic Jerusalem character. Special paint techniques were applied to the walls to create the appearance of multiple layers of aged paint accumulated over time. Beneath these layers, custom-designed graphics, advertisements, and signage emerge, creating the impression of a space shaped by years of stories and memories.

The street-facing service window was constructed using corrugated metal panels inspired by the informal and practical building style often associated with Jerusalem's historic Nahlaot neighborhood. Custom graphics, logos, and advertising elements were incorporated into these surfaces as part of the restaurant's branding, further reinforcing its distinctive identity.

Just as the food served at Joseph is rooted in quality and authenticity, the interior design was developed with the same philosophy. The result is a restaurant that successfully bridges past and present, combining local history, contemporary design, and a memorable dining experience in one of Jerusalem's most vibrant culinary districts.
