Yanais Megiddo – Café and Restaurant Design Along a Major Travel Route

Yanais Restaurant is located within the Megiddo Roadside Complex, a popular stop along the main route to northern Israel that combines a gas station, a small shopping center, and various services for travelers. The project was designed for a kosher dairy restaurant and café serving a diverse clientele, including families from nearby religious communities, local and international tourists, regular customers, and travelers seeking a comfortable place to rest, refresh, and enjoy a meal on the road.

One of the primary challenges of the project was creating a balance between several different user experiences taking place within the same space. On one hand, the restaurant needed to provide a relaxed dining environment for guests enjoying a full meal. On the other, it also functioned as a café and quick-service destination for customers purchasing coffee, pastries, or takeaway meals.

To organize these different functions while maintaining an open and welcoming atmosphere, a custom decorative partition was designed. The partition consists of two complementary elements: a suspended metal frame structure hanging from the ceiling and a bespoke millwork piece positioned beneath it. Together, they create a subtle separation between seated diners and passing visitors, providing a sense of intimacy without closing off the space or compromising its openness.

A key feature of the design is the relationship between the interior and the exterior environment. To maintain a bright, airy atmosphere while enhancing privacy, a mashrabiya-inspired screen pattern was incorporated into the restaurant’s glass façade. This element filters natural light, preserves visual connections to the outside, and creates a comfortable level of privacy for guests inside.

Yanais Megiddo demonstrates how thoughtful restaurant and café design can successfully accommodate multiple functions within a single space while creating an inviting, efficient, and enjoyable environment for a wide range of visitors throughout the day.
